about

Interview conducted via Zoom on July 23, 2021

00 -As the baseline breakbeat, I use the intro to "God Make Me Funky" by The Headhunters (1975). To accompany Angie’s discussion of her classical violin background, I use Haydn’s String Quartet in D Major, Op. 20 No. 4: III. Menuet alla Zingarese (Allegretto) (1772), performed by the St. Lawrence String Quartet (2019).

15 - When Angie discusses Gaelynn Lea, I use her song "This Hunger Won't Leave" (2020).

03 - Angie discusses playing in an 80s-90s rock cover band that plays a lot of U2, so I lay in their song "With or Without You" (1987).

26 - For the discussion of mindfulness and meditation practice in music, and for the discussion of politics, I use the instrumental of "Can I Kick It" by A Tribe Called Quest (1990). The track is not thematically related, but it’s one that both Angie and I love.

22 - When Angie discusses her love of the kids’ show Yo Gabba Gabba, featuring a recurring beatboxing segment by Biz Markie, I use his solo beatbox track "A One Two" (1986).

35 - For Angie’s discussion of the relative merits of rap and classical, I use the instrumental of "Electric Relaxation" by A Tribe Called Quest (1993) combined with JS Bach’s Partita No. 3 in E Major, BWV 1006: I. Preludio (1720) performed by Viktoria Mullova (2009).

09 - As Angie discusses the vulnerability of sharing your voice, I transition the beat to "Make the Music With Your Mouth, Biz" by Biz Markie (1986).

15 - Finally, for Angie’s newfound appreciation for Lizzo, I use Lizzo’s song "Juice" (2019).
